Essential Oils for Beginners - 7 Tips for Using Essential Oils on the Soles of the Feet

Essential oils can be put many places, including on the soles of the feet. If you've already read my article dealing with the benefits of doing this, you're probably ready for some tips. Here's seven to get you started.

1. Use the Essential Oils Desk Reference just like you would when you're consulting it for any health issue.

2. The soles of the feet are one of the best places to put hot oils such as oregano and thyme. However, do not get hot oils on the more sensitive skin in between the toes!

3. How many drops should you use? Always refer to the Essential Oils Desk Reference. Some considerations are size, weight, and state of health.

For example, Raindrop Technique is taught with six drops of a balancing blend put onto each foot of an adult, but when Gary Young demonstrated Raindrop Technique on his son who was only five days old at the time, he used only one drop on each foot. However, when his other young son was experiencing serious health issues due to toxic mold exposure, he was given a huge number of drops each day. Bottom line: Unless you are an expert, please be conservative.

4. When it comes to four-legged animals and applying oils to the soles of their feet, we are referring to the pads on the two hind legs. The EDR contains an entire chapter on the use of essential oils with animals.

5. Layering on one oil after another is an enjoyable way to receive the benefits of multiple essential oils. Some people prefer to wait a minute or so in between each oil, though most of us don't.

6. Use the same cautions you would use otherwise. For example, if you are taking a medication and its accompanying instruction sheet says to avoid grapefruit, do not use grapefruit oil or any oil containing grapefruit on the bottom of your feet.

7. Peppermint essential oil is a cooling oil, so on a hot day, massaging a few drops of peppermint oil into the soles of the feet feels really good. Moms who are educated about the benefits of essential oils will often put a few drops of peppermint oil onto the soles of their children's feet when they have a fever.
